the forget-me-not

poem by Ruth Salles

Based on mining legend

Once upon a time Our Lady
walking at dawn
always waiting for Jesus;
and, following through the countryside,
in white flowers scattered
she set her blue eyes.

And wept, weeping,
for her Son was far away:
“How hard to spend the day…”
And many longing tears
dew in that instant
every white flower that opened.

That's how the white forget-me-not
colored in the clear light
of the blue of Maria's eyes.
“Oh my son, I want you to come back.
Don't forget me, Jesus!"
that's what the saint said there.

And the forget-me-not, just for that,
It's also called Forget-me-not,
because he understood that pain.
And you didn't know that?
Well, it's enough that someone deserves it
and, just by loving, it will have more color.
