Ruth Sylvia de Miranda Salles, daughter of a doctor and an educator, was born in 1928, in Araraquara – SP. She grew up and studied in Rio de Janeiro and, after getting married, settled in the capital of São Paulo.

In 1954, his first book of poems was published, Pastoral. In 1960, it was released installments, which received the Olavo Bilac Award in Rio and the State Governor Award in São Paulo. In 1982, his third book was published, No Symbols None.

In 1966, he enrolled his children at the Waldorf Rudolf Steiner School, starting right away to collaborate with the teachers. He selected more than 200 texts by Portuguese-speaking authors, consistent with the pedagogy. He revised and re-translated over 400 poems and wrote over a hundred poems for pedagogical use. He worked on at least 120 theater texts for all grades of elementary school. He adapted plays by Schiller, translated and adapted Shakespeare and Calderón de La Barca. He recreated, in Portuguese, the librettos of the operas “Bastien e Bastiene” and “The Magic Flute”, by Mozart, of “Orfeu”, by Monteverdi, among other works.

He also composed music for plays and poems, as well as lyrics for existing melodies. He also collaborated with the translation, revision and final writing of dozens of books.

Part of his works created for the Waldorf pedagogy were published by Instituto Artesocial, with the book Learning with Poetry, the collection Theater at School 5 volumes, the book The Adventures of the Water Droplet and the book From Mulungu to Manacá, about the flora of Brazil.

Ruth Salles has worked for over 50 years creating content to be used as a pedagogical tool for schools that adopt the Waldorf Pedagogy. She passed away on 11/15/2021. Access your full resume.
