The 3rd year in Espírito Santo do Turvo

In 2008, the project continued in the municipality, with partial sponsorship from Fundação Software AG. About 72 class hours were given to teachers of kindergarten and elementary school, in two parallel classes, in several meetings during the year. The work culminated with a pedagogical exhibition and artistic presentations held at the end of the school year, where notebooks and other works made by the students of the participants in the project were exposed.

The training was carried out by teachers from Escola Aitiara, in Botucatu. For early childhood education, Marisa Cristina dos Santos and Sandra Regina Schorn act as trainers, and for elementary education, Karla Christine de Figueiredo Neves, Valquiria Cassimiro da Silva and Gisela Borkowske.

“The trainers of the project pass on many new things that we can apply with the students, that we can use in the classroom, both the practical part and the content. This more human side of Waldorf Pedagogy should be passed on to faculties as well, in addition to other content and methodologies. It's such a close reality… I think they (those responsible for training teachers) had to universalize this side of Waldorf Pedagogy more… We're dealing with being human, aren't we? Knowing the seven years, the temperaments, to know what the child thinks, how he is at each time.”

“I think that during the project I improved as a human being, because from the moment I want the best for my student, I have to improve myself first. So I have to learn more, I have to know more in order to teach more, and after so many years in the teaching profession, I wanted to learn more. … it made me want to go back to school, go back to learning and have more knowledge and learn more about the human being. To sum it all up, to learn more about human beings, not about methods or things that anyone can have, but being able to become a better human being and being able to develop the best of them in a child too.”

“I really liked the project, it was a new, different experience, which brought a lot of experience. It is important for people to practice, not just theory. I grew a little more artistically. I didn't use watercolor with children before, so I brought the experience of watercolor, of manual work, it brought another vision. Matter is sometimes just theory and watercolor, fairy tales bring the experience of feeling to children. The important thing is the formation of this person as a whole, and not just leaving a machine here, knowing how to calculate, knowing how to read everything, write everything… no. The person has to be much more than that. A complete human being has to come out of here. To leave not only with the theoretical basis, but also with feeling, respect for the colleague, coexistence in society.”

“When we do pedagogy, we do that internship that is not even an internship. We get there and the teacher signs because he doesn’t even want us to stay in the room – “I sign as many classes as I want, and leave!” –, and this ends up being lacking, because we did not have experiences with the students. Then we take a class and say “my God, what am I going to do?”. Now, with Waldorf Pedagogy, what do we see first? First we have to get to know the child and then know what we are going to work on. And we have to know each one, the temperaments. That's also nice because we get to know each child and it's also a teaching for us, even more than for the child, because we end up being a child too and learn with them. Learn more from them than they learn from us, always, always. We give an activity and don't wait for that return, and suddenly “wow, what a beautiful job!”. Then that's it. We end up learning more with them than they with us, because they learn through play, everything for them is play. So it's really cool.”
