In the second half of 2008, we started the implementation of the Dom da Palavra project in the municipality of Timburi, in the interior of the state of São Paulo, 367 km from the capital, with the sponsorship of the Mahle Association.
It is a small town, with about 2,600 inhabitants, very friendly and welcoming. Its name originates from a tree in the region, which you see in the photo to the side. Although small, it is a very old city, as witnessed by its mother church, built between 1917 and 1929. It is one of the only stone churches built in Brazil.
The municipality has a day care center, a kindergarten school and a 1st cycle elementary school. All teachers, directors and pedagogical coordinators participated in the project, being one groups with 20 teachers from kindergarten and the other with 14 teachers from elementary school. In the children's group, 3 teachers from the municipality of Fartura also participated. Classes were held on 9/13, 10/18, 11/29 and 12/13, 8 hours each day. Four teachers from Escola Aitiara, in Botucatu acted as trainers:
Kindergarten:
Marisa Cristina dos Santos
Sandra Schorn
Elementary School:
Gisela Borkowske
Valkyrie Cassimiro Silva

“The course went beyond what I expected, as it awakened in me gifts that I didn't even know. I was able to apply with my class greeting each student at the door, the songs, with gestures and canon, the poems, the movements, dramatization of stories and I explored the date of Timburi's birthday. It was all very good and I want to deepen by continuing the course.”

“The course went beyond expectations, because at first we expected a traditional course, with a lot of blah-blah-blah, but it was dynamic, and went straight to practice. I was able to extract many things to use in my daily life, such as ball games for math, dynamics at the beginning of classes to reassure the children, songs, poems, etc.”

“I learned a lot. As I didn't know it, I thought it would be a theoretical and boring course, and it was quite the opposite, as this is a dynamic and very attractive course. I was able to learn the stories, the songs and my own way of enchanting children. It was all very good, I would like to continue with the course, as it has greatly expanded my knowledge in the children's area.”

“We teachers were able to count on creative suggestions to apply in the classroom with the students, which enrich the day-to-day. We passed suggestions of art, musicality, activities experienced to the classroom, such as games with the aim of learning, which we did with the group of teachers.”

“The course was very different from the others I attended, with practical, objective and concrete activities. Practically everything I can apply to work on children's attitudes and face day-to-day challenges, such as aggression and indiscipline, such as nursery rhymes and stories.”

“The course exceeded my expectations, as all the courses I attended were tiring, they did not hold my attention and were recorded only in the handouts. It was of great importance the intention of rescuing games and songs from our childhood, …speaking and listening to stories, because in this way the child naturally learns relevant content for him to build knowledge. Through the dynamics of the modules, the course took place in an interesting way, because that way we recorded what we learned.”

“We had an idea of education more focused on learning with handouts, and with the course we learned that with dances, songs and dynamics, learning becomes more interesting in the eyes of the child. This all makes them more in touch and interact with each other. In particular what I liked the most were the songs and I think children learn a lot from them.”
