Mathematics – play by Ernst Bühler for 7 year olds
In this play by Ernst Bühler (Switzerland), translated from English and adapted by Ruth Salles, children learn numbers starting from 1, with all other numbers included in the 1, in the one as a whole. Read the pedagogical guidelines.
Characters: the Choir, which includes the Children who represent the numbers.
Within the choir itself, everyone organizes themselves in rows: one child, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and the child representing zero. Those who will speak in the center leave the choir then return. Only the ONE is always out near the choir, because the other numbers address him. The lines are spoken in conjunction with the choir.
Choir (sings or recites):
“We're all going to line up to start our game.
Plim-plam-plum!
No buzz!
Plim-Plum-Plum,
will speak the ONE!”
A child:
– I am the One, I am the All.
I'm round and beautiful like that. (turns around)
Everything that exists is inside of me.
Two children (talking to the UM):
– We are the TWO.
We're friends. Can't you see that we are more than you?
Choir (along with the One):
- IT'S. you are two,
but I must warn
that two friends
form only one pair.
three children (talking to the UM):
– We are the THREE.
How wonderful!
We are more than you
because we are the father,
the mother and daughter.
Choir (along with the One):
- IT'S. you are three
together on the trail.
But they form only One family.
four children (with robes of different colors, speak with the UM):
– We are FOUR winds,
that fly and no one sees.
We are more than you!
Red:
– I am the North Wind.
Blue:
– I am the East Wind.
Green:
– I am the South Wind.
Yellow:
– I am the West wind.
Choir (along with the One):
- IT'S. You are four
but I must warn
which are four winds
of just one air.
five children (talk to the UM):
– We are the rose.
Five fragrant petals:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
there's why
we are more than you.
Choir (along with the One):
- IT'S. You are five very fragrant petals,
but they form only One rose.
six children (talk to the UM):
– We are the SIX sides of the crystal:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
We are more than you, after all.
Choir (along with the One):
- IT'S. You are six. Not bad.
But it's the six sides
of just one crystal.
seven children (for the UM):
– We are the SEVEN days of the week.
Look how long our caravan is:
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday,
Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
And so
that we are more than you,
from beginning to end.
Monday:
– Monday is still dreaming,
want to spend the day napping.
Tuesday:
– But Tuesday has a strong arm,
and wants to do anything.
Wednesday:
– Wednesday I think will fly.
"Let's Dance! Everyone get out of the place!”
Thursday:
– Thursday listens very well
the verses that are said by someone.
Friday:
– Friday prepares in a moment
flowers for a wedding party.
Saturday:
– Saturday is washing and sewing day,
because the week is about to end.
Sunday:
– Sunday is the most precious day,
with his golden crown of home.
Choir (along with the One):
- Yea. You are seven days in caravan.
But they form only one week.
A child:
- I'm Zero. I'm a sorcerer.
Everything I touch changes completely.
1 becomes 10, 2 becomes 20, 3 becomes 30, 4 becomes 40.
And then 50, 60, 70.
Choir (all already included in it):
– Thank you very much for listening to our play.
But we know someone is interested
8 and 9. Where did they end up?
Ah, another day they will talk.
And now we show you
how do we know how to count
2 by 2 and 3 by 3,
backwards and forwards:
2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20;
20, 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2.
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30;
30, 27, 24, 21, 18, 15, 12, 9, 6, 3.
