Aesop's fable

A sheep was stolen from a shepherd, and he, filled with wrath, offered his fattest goat to Jupiter, if he found the thief. Immediately, he saw a large lion tearing his lamb through a grove of trees. Terrified he exclaimed:

– “O most high Jupiter, I offered you a goat to grant me the grace to discover the thief, but now I promise to sacrifice the whole flock to you if you save me from the lion’s claws.”
