The fisherman and the mullet

Aesop's fable

A man was fishing in a river and caught a small mullet. As he took the hook from her to put it in the basket, she opened her mouth wide, begging for mercy and asking the fisherman to throw her into the river.

The man asked him why he should do so, and the fish replied:

-“Because I'm still very small, as you can see, and I'm worth almost nothing; but if you let me go back into the water now and fish for me when I'm older, I can be of more use to you.”

– “Fishing you later, eh?”, replied the man, who was no fool. “And who guarantees me that? No, at least now I have you in my hands.”
